What are burnsides :dontknow: I have no clue
Burnsides are 54 cal. cartridges. Were used primarily in the CW. Kind of cone shaped. Real fragile...Hard to find not tore up. You can see them stacked into one another on the right side of the pic.

Wow what a great find. Congratulations sir. I used to deer hunt in your fair area years ago.Beautiful country always think of a return trip some day.Very nice people and like the town square and little diner. Nice hunt.

i would say it is either a lock plate from a single shot pistol or from a small caliber black powder rifle i work on them enough i have all kinds of modrn firearms but i hunt with traditional blackpowder rifles i shoot up to 125 yards with iron sights no scope or new inline junk

That is cool great finds!

Nice Finds Fellow Tennessean!!! Those cartridges are very fragile and thin. Fertilizer eats them up. WTG & HH.

Nice finds!! In 19 years I have found 3 Burnsides that were not rotted away!! Man, I would love to find a stack like that!! Nice job!

Looks like somebody was collecting "spent" rounds. Great find.
