Went back to the roman field, that gave up some nice relics and a couple of coins, thats on my last post.
I was getting some roman coins and an nice big thick coin, and towards the end of the morning I got a small coin, looked like a small copper medieval coin, but strange looking.
Well I got home and started cleaning, and I put it on a forum to find out the origin, thinking it was going to be a 3 or 4 hundred years old...like many coins from this part of the world :read2:
OBOL OF MASSALIA minted in 400 BC !!! :headbang: :headbang:
http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/greece/gaul/massalia/t.html
A little history: Massalia was founded by the Phoceans a greek colony, around the 600 BC, Phocea was an Ancient city on the Aegean Sea, northernmost of the Ionian cities on the western coast of Asia Minor (now the Gulf of Izmir, Turkey). An important maritime state c. 1000–550 BC, it founded a number of colonies, including MassAlia (Marseilles) in the western Mediterranean
My oldest and coolest coin so far, silver and from the GREEKS!!!
Also found a burned AS of BOLSKAN, 150 BC!!
And some very nice roman coins
Thanks for looking

Some great finds there. I've had the privilege of detecting ancient grounds and it always fills me with wonder.

Well, looks like your year has started like mine :headbang:

I knew that field would treat you well

That is older than any coin we could ever get over here, I have no idea on rarity over there, but from where I sit it looks like a banner coin to me, so I'm voting. :wav:

Coins don't get much older than that :blob7:

Those are just incredible coins!!!
Congrats!!!

Cur, than you very much for the vote! :hello2:
I agree it's an amazing rare coin, but Gold is always a hundred times harder to get, I thnik you gave me an statistic once about 3 thousand copper for every gold...

Still for me it's a great find, my oldest silver by a couple hundred of years!!

Thanks again

Exactly, any date you can push back a coin record by 200 years, its a great day :blob7:

If I pushed mine back more than 5 years I would be amazed :notworthy:

Awesome! Imagine Jesus or one of his disciples finding a coin and saying "wow! a 400-year-old coin!" Now that's old. :icon_thumleft:
