Hi
I used to hunt in you area when I was younger but now I don't go any further than Madison County or Stone County in Missouri. I used to come over there and Hunt for Fort Reagan but didn't have any luck. I usually hunted with Stephen Burgess from Fayetteville. Stephen's Website (CampSite Artifacts)

I’ve seen Stephens website before. Does he keep most of his stuff or just sell what he finds

View attachment 1535253Hi Spats, this is the best close-up I can get. How long do you soak the Relics In Apple Cider Vinegar?

Roger, thanks for the close-up. That is a great looking button.

As far as soaking iron relics in apple cider vinegar, it can take as little as a day or as long as two to three weeks depending on the amount of rust. I take the the relic out every couple of days while wearing rubber gloves. I use a file and a wire brush to work the remaining rust off or to gently break up any rust globs. You can rinse in water to determine how much rust is left. Repeat until all rust is gone. Then let dry and apply Gempler's.

As I have just started using this technique, there may be others more experienced who can give better instructions.

If you wanna go detecting sometime let me know. I’ve got some killer permissions. I had some places in Madison county that we hunted growing up with great success

Love those .69ers, wish I had the rifle
