So, I received my Starship Enterprise this afternoon:
I mean, XP Deus! I was a little nervous, as I had given up my E-Trac in order to make it happen. I would have loved to keep both, but I really am optimistic about the XP Deus tech. I love the light weight, even with the larger 11" coil, and its ability to collapse into a small form factor for storage. I was highly impressed with the build quality of all aspects of this detector. The shaft and handle, coil, remote and WS5 headphones all seem very solidly built and exude a premium feel. The user interface on the remote is intuitive and easy to get the hang of. I was able to program a few of Andy's settings quickly and with ease. The "hidden" XY graph is really interesting, and seems very useful for differentiating an iffy signal. It would be really cool if you could have it displayed in the "horseshoe" area.
The WS5s fold up nicely, and have a decent (faux?)leather pouch to store them. They are very snug on my head, but they did not put any pressure on my glasses. The button setup is simple and easy to adjust the volume without looking. It is really nice that the headphones can act as the control unit in the event that my remote gets lost, loses charge, needs repair etc.
The remote is fairly solid, and button presses are responsive without any creaking of the seam. I could do without the glossy finish, as fingerprints and smudges really annoy me. I also received the silicone shell for the remote to keep it protected, and it is a good fit. It's a little tough to get it on, as it sticks to the glossy finish tightly. I've heard it affects the visibility of the screen when outdoors, but I've yet to put it to the test.
I've done several air tests, and while I know everyone screams that those don't matter, I am very encouraged by the results. My 14k gold wedding band rings in clearly at 18" in the 18 kHz gold program, and most coins come in at 14-16" on Andy's 12 kHz program.
Overall my impressions have been extremely good, and I can't wait for this winter to end so I can get out there and learn the ropes with this beast!
