I mean, XP Deus! I was a little nervous, as I had given up my E-Trac in order to make it happen. I would have loved to keep both, but I really am optimistic about the XP Deus tech. I love the light weight, even with the larger 11" coil, and its ability to collapse into a small form factor for storage. I was highly impressed with the build quality of all aspects of this detector. The shaft and handle, coil, remote and WS5 headphones all seem very solidly built and exude a premium feel. The user interface on the remote is intuitive and easy to get the hang of. I was able to program a few of Andy's settings quickly and with ease. The "hidden" XY graph is really interesting, and seems very useful for differentiating an iffy signal. It would be really cool if you could have it displayed in the "horseshoe" area.

The WS5s fold up nicely, and have a decent (faux?)leather pouch to store them. They are very snug on my head, but they did not put any pressure on my glasses. The button setup is simple and easy to adjust the volume without looking. It is really nice that the headphones can act as the control unit in the event that my remote gets lost, loses charge, needs repair etc.

The remote is fairly solid, and button presses are responsive without any creaking of the seam. I could do without the glossy finish, as fingerprints and smudges really annoy me. I also received the silicone shell for the remote to keep it protected, and it is a good fit. It's a little tough to get it on, as it sticks to the glossy finish tightly. I've heard it affects the visibility of the screen when outdoors, but I've yet to put it to the test.

I've done several air tests, and while I know everyone screams that those don't matter, I am very encouraged by the results. My 14k gold wedding band rings in clearly at 18" in the 18 kHz gold program, and most coins come in at 14-16" on Andy's 12 kHz program.

Overall my impressions have been extremely good, and I can't wait for this winter to end so I can get out there and learn the ropes with this beast!

To any Deus users, what is the clear vinyl sticker for? It is about the size of the front of the remote, so I thought it might be a screen protector of sorts, but I would think it impedes the usage of the buttons. Can anyone shed some light on this thing?

Yep front of remote, still use buttons.....

Day Two: I am really loving the Deus! Everything about this thing is really intuitive. It makes my old E-Trac seem clunky and clumsy. I took the remote out into the sunlight (with silcone weather guard on) and I have absolutely no problems reading the screen, even with the backlight off. I had read that it made it hard to read, but there seems to be no problem. I've been performing a wide variety of depth/separation testing (air) and it is even way better than my AT Pro with 5x8 coil. The stock programs work really well, but Andy's trashy coinshooter program is excellent. I'm quickly learning how each setting impacts the detection. I am really getting pumped to put this heavy hitter to use in areas that I have been over with my E-Trac, to see what I may have missed.

I hope your talking about old home sites cause if your talking about parks you might be disappointed.

hogground,

Since you don't seem to own one how would you know that?

I'm also new to the Deus for 2014 and so far I love it. What I like best is how in under 1 minute I can fold it up, put it in my back pack, an XP backpack, and hike to my next detecting spot where it takes less than another minute to set the machine up and start detecting. I hunt old places in the woods and hiking from spot to spot hands free is great. I can go on and on but this explains what I like best about it.

Going over places previous hunted with the etrac to see what I missed, that what you put in your post, I don't own a deus, but in the market for another detector and I did tons o research more than I care to mention .Look its light weight, compact,,wirerless and got quick response time. Isn't that enough to market it. So now it got to better than the etrac well everything is compared to the etrac what does that tell you and don't own the etrac either. So let's look at it this way a good iPhone 500 to 600 a good set of head phones 300 to 500 now good coils 200 to 350 plus the strong build. Now after that its how good is it going to detect. The atpro is 600 take the water aspect out of it how much would it be so cause it can go in water doesn't affect its dept its a option that your paying for.I think the deus is A great machine I think it has better separation then the atpro, but think the dept would be the same I wasn't trying to knock it I'm just a realest plus this is a deus forum wasn't trying to anger people, but on the same token people look for info and it seems miss leading is all.

Hi,
Iuse a SGT and I've been hunting for about two years. My detector is fine but The compact nature of the dues intrigues me greatly.
I sure would like to hear your opinions from time to time pertaining to how well it performs compared to your etrac
thx for posting and good luck.

My friend, I don't think you have angered anyone. The E-Trac is a great detector, and I wasn't trying to imply that the Deus needed to better. If anything, I could only hope that the Deus performs as well as the E-Trac in most situations. These higher-end detectors are all going to have their strengths and weaknesses. What about the Deus do you think is misleading? I have also done lengthy research, including field test comparisons from many respected/established people in the hobby. If you have been in the E-Trac market, you will likely be familiar with Andy Sabisch. The fact that he has written a glowing review and written a book on the Deus should speak volumes about it.

No detector does it all.so I was looking at the etrac and t2ltd and would figure. That would be a nice one to punch. But if the deus is what its marketed as that's all I would need. Now I don't have a place to try one out around here so I depend on research and usually can see threw the be.Guys know that when getting a new detector there's other factors like let's say a wife .So to through that kind of money it best not sit in a closet or putting it up for sale. There isn't a lot of videos on it and the ones that are seem to make excuses for its dept .Now I no Andy wrote a book on it that doesn't mean it gets great dept and also doesn't mean it doesn't.It has alot of good points that could be in a book. Now I don't want to start world war three but them books aren't free.I'll tell ya man if the deus is what its supposed to be than that's one little light weight demon.

I had an AT Pro and LOVED it. I am new to Deus (month) and I will say, yes it is super light, easy to turn and go and swap programs, real easy which is great, it really scared me the first day out, for first few hours all I got was iron and crap (Heavy heavy junk area), but then I swapped programs (was using one recommended to "start" with"), and man that baby got me GREAT finds! Now the area I hunt has been detected by many other machines, including minelabs, (v3i, Fisher GBPro AT Pro also).....Depth to me is very good, now IMO depth aint the best factor, I think if a target is 9" deep but crap you dig for nothing or if a goodie is masked and deep, you miss it. Deus is GREAT at separation and super fast, which I feel is its best features, for me. Depth is greatly dependent on settings, I may set it up one way and get super deep, you may set it another and get good depth....

I bought the Deus for its performance (vids online comparing to various other machines) and ability to be updated, Deus updates will keep it one of the leading machines I feel. Also the ability to on the fly swap programs was a factor for me.

No mater how good/great a detector is, there will be people knocking it, human nature I think......Also, you can have a "low end" detector and know it very well and kick ass over a "high end" one used by the wrong person.

I got friends who have etracs, they make great finds, they are good with their machines, I like etrac, I never used one. I have a Deus, I use it, am still learning it (which is exciting as it performs great now, wait till I got it down!), I love my Deus!

Hogground, you should do one of them test drives, do it a couple times, use the Deus.

When I got my atpro I new what I was getting.Tried it in std mode and before the end of the day I was in pro, very easy to use.Now I won't say that it can't hit at 8 inch dept, but you would have to be where there wasn't many targets also I wouldn't expect it to.You would have to go by the clicks with no I'd to get real deep targets and also they would have to be far and few,now I here guys complaining that they can only get 8 inch targets with the etrac don't no what they expect. Now I don't want to dig 9 inch targets all the time, but would like to feel confident that my MD could if I wanted to.Now I considered the deus cause I liked the idea that it could be put in a back pack otherwise I have to walk down the street with a full length MD and we got a lot of window lickers here.I don't no what you mean by test drive, but if it is what it supposed to be I would consider it with the 11 inch coil of course Now to me I would think it has a lot of good features to get one but I wouldn't think great dept would be one of them.It would be just another detector to grab for another situation. So if you had tree detectors hanging on the wall and then got the deus, would you have one hanging there now or four.

I have just sold all my other detectors, AT Pro, Vaquero, ACE350, Gold Bug2. Only one hanging on my wall is Deus. Will I buy another sometime? Maybe, I am an addict after all...LOL

"walk down the street with a full length MD and we got a lot of window lickers here"

LOL the visual in my head of people licking their windows....to funny! (I knew what you meant).

I got the 9" coil on my deus and the depth is there....11"? Not usre how much more it will gain me, but more than likely I will buy one, but not till I am 100% up on my Deus....

Ye seems like a very intuitive MD probable one of the most I seen I can see having it for a long while.I got a couple of weeks to decide but one thing for sure I'm going to be getting a new unit soon and I'm siked for what ever one or ones come in .the mail thanks for all the info.

Well the snow has melted in some areas of my backyard, enough for me to try out the Deus. I've been over my small yard with the E-Trac and AT Pro many times, and it is riddled with iron. Using the trash program, I have been able to find MANY strong repeatable signals with good numbers among the iron. While its still to cold to dig, I have the feeling that the Deus is going to impress me this spring!!

After all the research I still feel the t2 and etrac are a good combo deus and etrac a better combo, that would be awesome . I'm going to see if I can swing it when I'm ready I'll call around to see what deal I can get if not there's always next year.l have a atpro, but sent it to Garrett for a repair in going to do a Garrett response tread when I get it back I sent it march 8 priority mail so see when I get it back I will post what detector I get when I decide. I no detecting is in the air so great got some great spots to hunt this yr.
