2012 Illinois Silver Tally

Looking for a Civil War era picnic grove. Way back in the woods and within 20 minutes I get a great silver dime signal. Out comes this mud covered silver disc. Oh yeah, my coveted seated dime. I don't clean it because I don't want to scratch it so in the pocket it goes and I am sure I am on the old grove site. Then nothing.....absolutely nothing except the occasional .22 bullet or shell. Hours later I head back to the car and pour some water on my dime hoping to see Miss Liberty and a great old date. A freaking 1953d rosie. Obviously I have not found the grove site. Add one to my silver count but what a disappointment.

With a few new members joining in on the tally this year, I'm setting our goal for this year at 3,000. A couple of our members got over 300 each last year, several over 100, and many near 100. This should not be difficult to reach. Let's step up our skills and kick some serious butt this year! With everyone gaining a bit of more experience, and upgrading their equipment I don't think this is out of our reach. Let's do this!

A short hunt after work netted another war nickle, 43P. Also got a few wheats, memorial and one of those Presidential toy tokens.

Id like to join in and help the cause & hopefully meet more detectorists in the St. Louis metro area. I have never kept track in other years so maybe this will help me. 28 thus far, one barber and one Walking half, the others all mercs, rosies, and a couple Washingtons. Soft ground in January will certainly help the totals.

I've already met a couple via TN, good experiences all around. Lucky on my start, found a section of park,new to me that is trashy and must have never seen a good machine and managed to find 20 in two short hunts. Normally its door knocking and squeeking out what I can in pounded parks.

1908,1912 barber dimes, 41 merc, and a 53 rosie today and a 1940 Washington a couple days ago,for 34 on the year. Love this weather
