I put in about three hours at what I thought would have been a pretty good site, house and barn at least 150 yrs old, only found one coin, and it was not as old as expected.

Anyway got a couple of whatzits. both mysteries to me.

Top pic looks like a ramrod thimble.

Semi cool?WOW!I would take that any day!!!!

Thanks Kruger,

I guess it is hard to appreciate something you know nothing about, even if it would be considdered a good find or not. It's obviously a first, so that is cool, and it's old.

Its what held the ramrod to the stock of an early fire arm, probably a musket

broken harpoon tip? in your pic, it looks like it could have bent barb.

the pic below is of one a lot newer.

Definately an entry pipe - and I am a hard one to convince with arms-related whatzit artifacts. Probably from a flintlock fowler or musket.

Here is a casting from a 1803 Harper's Ferry musket. Fairly close (down to the curl/lip on the flange)

Because there's no rules to what you find detecting.

Exactly right, I always wonder why so many post put 'weight' to an objects date or function based on where it was found & what it was found with. At best these are just clues, at worst they have no connection at all & are 100s of years apart.

A coke can can be found on a CW site doesn't mean the soldiers drank from it :laughing9:
