Found these at a dump today. The first item is a copper piece that looks like it has a fancy lever on it. The second looks like a giant saftey pin. Any ideas on how these were used or age would be appreciated.

Solved: Ice box hinge and large saftey pin.

Giant safety pins were used in commercial laundries to keep the items together for easy ID of ownership. Anywhere from Hotels, Institutions, Prisons down to Chinese laundry places.

You first item appears to have a Skelton key in it. Perhaps take some more pics?

I will post some pics in an hour or two, I was thinking the same thing but the hole seems too large to be a skeleton key.

Also U S Navy, used aboard ship in the '50's. We had a sort of net bag that we put out socks in and sent them to the laundry with a giant safety pin that held the bag closed.
