More unidentified items from the river shoreline that I frequent during low tide. I have a lead item that upon first glance is a lead sinker. The lead appears to be "older" type material. I do not see a seam. It is unique because it has two orifices. Would this have been some type of wire insulator or weight? Or is it simply a design to run the fishing line through a double up the sinker? The other item appears to be a piece of a rock shale with a coat of lead on both sides. I can faintly see imprinted words "MARK" and a symbol above that (maybe its a zero?).

It could be. I find them there as well, but most of them have large openings as they wrapped around thick rope and/or nets. It's the first one I found with two "tunnels"

Definitely a rope weight. They would go on a side of a net, where the webbing of the net met the rope. I find them up here in Maine bub
