Got out yesterday for two hours right after a big storm came through and tried a new field. This field is completely surrounded by streams and the water in the middle is actually flowing due to some flooding. After about 30 minutes I went to the upper left field as there is too much trash here and it was very wet.

Found some first class junk and wandered into a small forest which is to the far left in upper picture. There is supposed to be a 1000 year old farm/hotel in this immediate area, in the forest I found a large flat area that looks like a house could have been there and what looks like a cellar hole but it also turns into a ditch, perfect location for an old farm.

Found the upper left copper coin in the forest area, too far gone to ID. Had to leave the forest area as it got dark and I kept biffing my coil on fallen branches and such. Went to the field where I found the 1585 thingy, it?s a huge field. Detecting along I received a mixed signal and couldn?t get it to stabilize, common target here LOL, thought I would pull up a piece of iron or a bottle cap, was surprised to see a coin. Started filling the hole and found another coin so I scanned the hole again and another target was there, another coin, then another and another. 5 coins in one hole on a grassy farm field, rare! The coins are dated 1935-1942ish and the 5 Pfennig is in very nice condition. The reverse of the coins.

Obverse of the coins.

Also found an aluminum seal from Hamburg and a musket ball.

Then woke up to this early this morning and it?s getting worse. However, it isn?t over until the ground freezes! HH and thanks for looking, Mike

Always a treat to view your finds Mike! In a field here at home you are liable to find.......dirt! Most of the land here in OK was virgin timber until after the land rush in the 1880s and then a lot of it was just pasture. Then was the dust bowl days where no one had any coins to lose! Excellent! Monty

Very nice!! I see a swastika on at least one of them. That must be something, to be finding Hitler's coins. WTG!! HH

wtg mike, nice find's,got some fields up here that were some staging area's(artillery) for antietam. How do you pinpoint location's,been through all the map site's,nothing yet any help?Need to narrow it down.Thank's.

How interesting!

Funny, I never thought that muskett balls would be so light in color. Thanks for the picture! Hate to find some and think, what the heck is that...and then move on.

Gotta luv the forum!

Mike your like the us mail! Snow ,sleet and rain!LOL Nice finds and congrats.I got up and looked out this morning to snow. For the birds. :-\

After a lead ball has been in the ground for a while ....or even in the open air, it will begin to oxidize, thus the white color on the surface. Monty

Mike I like to have you on my team If we were competing against others. Neat finds and pic's. Happy holidays to you. Stan

I have read dozens of accounts about battles of the civil war. In nearly every case the staging area for artillery was on a ridge overlooking the battle field. I would suggest checking out elevation maps and seeing where the high points are on both sides of the battle. Monty

That's nice for a few hrs Mike. Your area with the snow looks like mine. I usually don't mind the snow if it's not real deep. I hate when in the day it starts to melt then forms like a ice layer on the top and you can't swing your coil under it. When it's light snow it's no problem it actually seems to enhance depth.
