Got out for two 6 hours days this weekend. Yesterday was mostly spent at a mid to late 1800's site, today at a colonial-era site. I have found around a half dozen or so copper Chinese cash coins, but this is my first brass one. That is my 6th skeleton key of this type. I have found a couple of older ones to date, usually with much larger loops. I think the slick coppers come from the early settlement period of my town, 1650's up to the KG1 period.
When I first went out his morning it was 22 degrees with occasional snow flakes, yesterday was mid-30's but with a strong NW wind chill. My Muck Arctic Pro boots are worth every penny. I'm happy deer and wildfowl seasons are over at the end of January so that I can head back into some favorite woods where there are plenty of both. Pretty good return for my efforts. I was swinging the coil through low brush near wetlands while the ticks are frozen. That is work. I think my real goal is to be outside and getting some exercise. I will be 65 this this August and I still work heavy construction. Weight and blood pressure are good and I never take meds. So it's all paying off.
