Hey Trapper, that sure looks real to me. Only way to tell would be to take it to a jeweler to test it for gold. Congrats...Lance

Um.......holy crap man. It looks real, but I don't know for sure. The attachment of the "ring" was definately after the manufacture of the coin - a good sign. Coins were attached to so many things so they could dangle off the body. IF that is real......holy crap, man.

The ring on top looks to be brazed on. Good possibility that it is real.
As others have said. Take it to the jeweler

Holy Cow!!! I bet it IS real. I found a gold coin a few years ago (a 195? Dos Peso)that was made into an earing. What a great find you made.
CONGRATS to you!!!

Likely real enough, but as a pendant its worth alot less. Check out similar gold indian head pendants selling on eBay and compare the completed sal prices to that of the coin. I think a "good" jeweler/goldsmith could desolder that without leaving a mark.

Nice find either way though.

wait a minute......his wife found it! congrats wife!!!

Not a coin that is typically faked. I am very sure it is real. Great find. Best of all, they didn't drill a hole through it! The chain loop should be easily removed with little not damage to the coin. (by a professional) DO NOT TAKE IT TO A JEWLER TO SEE IF IT IS REAL, THEY WILL USE A CHEMICAL ON IT AND DECREASE THE VALUE! TAKE IT TO A COIN SHOP, AND HAVE THEM RECOMMEND SOMEONE WHO CAN REMOVE THE LOOP WITHOUT HURTING THE COIN. Then weigh the coin to authenticate it. It should way.... 4.18 grams, 18mm diameter, reeded edge (like a dime) and contains 0.12094 oz of pure gold.

Production figure: 722,165 and worth a couple hundred bucks. Minimum value at today's gold price ($645.80) = $78.10.

I was hunting in an old open football field and she
was hunting in the WOOD CHIPS!!! She thought
it was a token and still hardly believes they made
a $2.50 coin! I did the chicken dance for her! LOL
I will take it to our local coin shop tomorrow to see
if it is the real deal and will let ya`s know!
HH all----------Bob ;D
