Detector(s) used
White's MXT
Hi all, I am new to both this forum and to metal detecting. I just picked up a White's MXT Friday night. I took it out for the 1st time today. I went to the beach. It was 15 degrees but sunny. I spent about an hour and found a quarter and a penny. Pretty good I think considering I am new and am just learning how the machine works. The quarter was 6 inches down, the penny about 2 inches. It's too cold to go anywhere else since the ground is frozen and snow covered. Like I said, I am new and just learning, so I consider my trip out a success. I am spending alot of time reading these forums and am learning alot just by looking at the stuff everyone has found and reading the stories behind them. I look forward to enjoying my new hobby.

Welcome to T-Net & congrats on the new machine!

You're going to have a lot of fun here!

Be patient and take time to learn your machine and above all, hook up with some other MD'ers out there and hunt together. It's a lot more fun to share the good times!

I look forward to reading about your finds!

Welcome to T NET, we can't wait to see things you've found on the island

thanks. I am looking forward to the ground thawing out. I am on the east end of long island, but my mother in law has a house in Garden City. You can be sure I will be detecting there!

They sold you that piece of Junk?.............................................. :-\

Just kidding  I wish I could afford such a fine machine welcome to tnet visit your local library there is a book Urban Treasure hunting :sign13: ,written by one of your homies. In it he gives advice for you to be a successful treasure hunter in any urban environment just so happened he was in Gotham when he wrote the book. If your library doesn't have the book ask reference for an interlibrary loan and they will get the book for you. Use the library they have far more resources than you can ever hope to afford. Look at their magazines too some locations have treasure hunting magazines too. One bok I recommend you buy is a red book any date will do it will give you an idea of the valuable coins if you have the means get a new book I got a year off "09" for what you would pay for the taxes of a new book. I guess the 2011 edition is to be released soon keep that in mind a new one comes along every year.

Welcome to t-net arnold may your finds be many and your holes be shallow. Nice to have you sir.

thanks everyone for the info and advice. I went out at lunch briefly today to a park. Came up with a Japanese 1 yen coin. I'll try and take a pic and post it. Unfortunately, the ground is so frozen right now. Even the woodchips were frozen solid! But, it's supposed to warm up this week.
