Detector(s) used
Bounty Hunter 505
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
My detector was just delivered this weekend. My wife have a house on a river that is very close to the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia and I found this ball pretty close to the shore line next to an area of trees. The metal detector made a few noises that were different than the 'iron' beeps that it made for the old nails that I dug up in the same general area.
The ball was originally totally brown, but as I scraped w/ a fingernail, I saw that it was white under the brown layer. It's about 5/8" in diameter and has a small flat area on one side.
Any thoughts?
I'm already excited about more searching!

Thanks, Worldtalker. My wife is already looking at me funny!
I have a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505. It looked like a decent starter detector for me. I'm just figuring it out, but it's pretty exciting hearing the 'beeps and squeaks'!

PRATICE,PRATICE,PRACTICE,you'll get to know what your machine is telling you!I can see in the NEAR future you'll be upgrading!Patients and Persistance=PAYOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive found several of those! Muskett balls! Cool huh? Sometimes they can be modern ones. If its a real old muskett ball the ball will have a coat of white on it being in the ground for a longtime.

That's a good detector, It will find the same stuff the expensive machines find.

Nice musket ball. Who knows, it could have been fired in the 1600's by one of the first colonists! Congrats!

Well come to this great hobby of relic hunting and T. Net forum!

Nice first find, try to resist over cleaning your finds, most of the time you should just lightly clean with water. GL & HH

Nice first find! Remember all those squeals and broken signals, and then when you went over the ball... it gave you a nice solid boing... that's the sound your listening for.
Then once you have that sound indelibly etched into your brain, you'll hear that sound but it's just not right. Dig these cause it's probably something good next to a piece
of iron or trash. Like they said above, practice practice practice!! :icon_thumright:

I still dont use a pouch_just pockets. I got in trouble our couch got filled with dirt somehow :icon_scratch: nice find.. Better go find more
