:hello:

We hit the Roman Villa field today it had been deep ploughed and it was as flat as a pancake, so we were expecting a new lease of finds since we have been hitting this field for 7 years now, alas it was not to be.:sadsmiley:

To say the going was tough would be a under statement, most of the signals were tiny pieces of lead and the odd Roman Bronze coin and mostly well battered, but I did manage a nice Magnentius AE, the only second coin of this ruler.8-) Michael had the only Silver of the day, a Septimus Severus Denarius. Right on top of the Villa area I had a nice Roman nail cleaner with some really nice patina, we decided to have a break about 12.30 and walking of the field in a quite area I had a Complete 1st century Dragonesque Brooch but minus the pin.

The Brooch must have been brought up by the deep ploughing because it has a very heavy build up of iron from the soil were it's been laying for the better part of 2000 years . Some thing else unusual about the Brooch is it's size only 25mm in length, I'm wondering if it was made for a child.:dontknow:

SS my brain can't even comprehend that brooch! That is just an incredible find that has in the earth for so long. Great job bringing that baby out of the dirt. I'm glad you were able to share that with us

That's my first full one out of four, what do you think about the size.:icon_scratch:

I've only had 1 small frag!

The Denarius is a Septimius Severus RIC 366a 194 AD Emesa Mint Spes holding flower and lifting skirt.

Not loads but still a great day.

How the heck did you identify the "nail cleaner" ? quite a beautiful artifact I think - the serpent brooch is amazing , and a silver denarius is
always a daymaker (especially prior to debased coinage)

So lucky to live in a country with so massive a history :D

Great brooch there SS! Never seen one here. The nail cleaner is cool, cleaned up nicely and ready to use again! A decent tool for dirty nails after a day digging!

The nail cleaner had a loop, now broken it would have been part of a cosmetic set. There are many different designs.

I'd say any of the four would make my day, getting the big bronze or the silver is top notch. Though the two relics are just total icing I think, the brooch is a killer find and the nail cleaner is a first rate relic.
You said that the nail cleaner had a loop, would it be open or closed, and are ear wax cleaners similar?

Fabulous finds! I've read your prior posts about your better days, but today's finds would blow my socks off.

Absolutely amazing finds and I bet next plowing will release many new treasures!

Fantastic finds all.

Those finds are awesome! Nice job on the cleaning!

Pretty sure this is a type of Romano-Celtic Brooch that are only made here.

Yes that's correct Cru, they are Romano-Celtic art. The type occurs predominantly in the military districts of Roman Britain, and mainly found in Yorkshire through to Lincolnshire, but the odd specimen does turn up further south, but a lot scarcer there.
