image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgAnyone on here want to hear a treasure hunting story that sounds like pure B.S. here it comes. Sunday was on of my better days of detecting since finding an 1852 $1 gold coin back in 1985. I have been hunting a site where the gov. back in 1855 paid annuities to one of the Indian tribes in my state. The site hadn't produced anything older than an 1886 I.H. Penny and no silver till Sunday. Boy did that ever change. The first coin I dug Sunday was a memorial penny then an I.H. Showed up. Finally dug a 1891 seated dime then about 4 ft. away out comes a 1903 Barber dime. I am thrilled to finally see some silver from this place after hunting it 4 times. Then nothing but shotgun hulls and other trash for about 30 min. Then I get another coin signal and dig a 6 in. deep plug. When I pinpoint the plug the target is in the plug so I try to cut the plug in half with my digger and when I do I see Gold. 50 miles apart & 28 years later I found my 2nd $1 gold coin dated 1854. The coin is in mint condition with absolutely no wear so I am convinced it is from the annuity payment. I am today still having trouble believing this happened to me. Don't know how to put pics on here but if someone knows how I can e-mail them. Man I love this hobby. Thanks for reading and thank you TreasureNet for a great site.

Great story ! That's why we do what we do for those awesome finds. Hope one day I could tell a story like yours.

The first $1 gold coin I found I was using a fisher 1260-x. The 1854 $1 coin was found with a 1265-x I bought new around 1990.

You are right about a bunch of $1 coins made to look like a lot. I read that for days before the annuities were paid vendors would come in and set up. It was described as a carnival like atmosphere with people drinking, gambling and celebrating with a colorful array of Indian dress seeing and being seen.

that thing is beautiful!

Thanks jewelerguy...my son is also a jeweler and you should see this coin with a 10 power loop. The detail in a coin that small is phenomenal. I think these are the smallest coin ever minted in the U.S.

Congrats buddy. That is in great shape.Still working on mine, maybe some day one will turn up.Awesome find

Wow, way to go. I've had some great silver coin and jewelry finds as well as nice gold jewelry finds, but no gold coin yet. These days I literally pray as I hunt asking for one. I think the chances go way up if you have access to a historic spot like the one you've found.

Congratulations on an exceptional find. You've already found 200 percent more gold coins than I and in about the same amount of years. But, you see, I'm saving all mine up for one big coin! I figure if I go for a dollar a year, I should be able to find a 50 dollar gold piece soon. ;)

But, ya know? I'd settle for one just like yours at this point. LOL

I guess you'll be retiring from hunting now, right? ;)

HH!

Here are three pictures which he sent me of the coin:

*Edit. Since he's been able to post a picture of the coins, I nominate his find for the banner. It's a fun story, has historical significance, and the 1854 Liberty gold piece just simply looks brilliant!

Thanks Believer for the nomination for the banner. I don't know how that works but there are certainly some incredible finds on there!

WOW dream find for sure! Congrats to you...)

What? You found a tiny gold coin down 6 inches with that old VLF detector?

Of course you did!:hello2:

WTG, it's a beauty!

Cheers,
Dave.

Congratulations. Not dismissing your silver but that gold is stunning. Thanks for sharing. Hats off to who left it where it was too.
Gee what a find!
