the back of the watch has two (2) covers. the first is the one you posted, the next cover opens to the watch movement.
on the movement will, should, be serial number, manufacture, adjusted markings...ect.
also on a swiss watch, the type of movement is necessary to value the watch.
the swiss made several qualities of movements.

at the stem, there is a small lip. take a small knife, and carefully pry the cover open...that is the picture needed to identify the movement.

There is much confusion about Le Roy watches: this is a very common name in France and many firms used it. From the end of 18th Century up to the beginning of 20th Century many watches have been produced by a lot of different makers using this name or some of its variations. Quality varied too. Anyway, the "first" Le Roy was Julien (1686-1759) whose workshop definitely closed about in 1783, after a few years under the direction of his son Pierre. Every later maker nothing has to share with the first Le Roy.
The most famous Le Roy firms were surely in Paris: one founded about in 1785 with the name "Le Roy" later changed in "Le Roy & Cie" by Basil Charles Le Roy in Galerie Montpensier, 13 & 15 Palais Royal; another called formerly "Leroy", later "Le Roy et Fils", in Galerie Valois, 114 & 115 Palais Royal.
They made a large amount of watches, still quite common.

Hello bigcypresshunter. Seems like you are well versed on pocket watchs. I collected pocket watches 25 years ago, had over70, near 100 at one time. And though I had numerous swiss and other european watches, didnt have any this fine. I had a couple of cylinder movements, that I wasnt able to get repaired. And a chain drive watch? Back then the average swiss movement didnt have much value.Dont think I had any french watches. Had a nice french mantel clock once. Sold to an exboss. Looks like this watch here, is a pin set?

Back then you had to rely on books for information on watches, and the experience of older collectors around you. Know with the advent of internet, research is much easier. About 7 years ago, I did buy a very small ladies size pendant watch, that I believe is swiss? It is in poor shape, with I think a sterling case, but cannot tell much about movement. I think I will have to send it out someday, to see if it has any value, can be repaired, and maybe find someone that can do something with it, as I cannot.

I have watched ebay for some european watches( french/swiss), and seen some very nice looking ones! But not up on values, so am reluctant to bid on any. But would love to have a watch as nice as this french watch. Thanks for reading my reply.
