Hey everyone. It's good to be back detecting. Today was the first time since December. Kirk,Kyle and I got out to a tired old site that has been good to me for a half year or so. We decided to get out Saturday due to forcasted snow for tomorrow. We had 3 hours of daylight after I got out of work so off we went. The first half inch of soil is thawed but it was frozen after that. It made for some tiresome hacking and digging. In the bean field across the street from an old one room schoolhouse I found a 190? indian head that just doesn't cut it for me any more. In to the pouch it went and farther into the colonial field I fled. I searched out Kyle who from where I was standing looked like an ant in the distance. I was noticing iron patches after iron patches that werent producing many good signals but were interesting nonetheless. After catching up to Kyle we decided to hit the area where I found my last KG III copper. Going about a half an hour in this field and BOOM, Penny / Dime on my trusty XL PRO analog and 6 inches of frozen , difficult digging and I was rewarded with what I thought was a Coronet Largie. I called Kyle over and he said the same but instantly said "Wait, I think it is a classic head. We both got a better look and each agreed it was. 1810's the date. I searched the acreage and spied Kirk on the horizon. After giving him the standard shovel pump above the head he began to make his way back. Kyle and I agreed to not tell him what we thought it was and to instead let him decide for himself. He put it in his hand and instantly said "Classic Head" High fives went all around. My first Classic Head Largie. I did find a half cent one last year. Copper Zeus is back for another run on coppers. ;D

Ahhhh yes, The Copper Crew is back at it. Very nice find Chris. There's no stopping you PA Yankees. ;D
Glad to see the trip was well worth it.

So if you are the uncle, and Kyle is the ANT, what does that make Kirk? :icon_scratch: :tongue3:

Congrats,
Doug
Doug, My man....It's good to be back at the hobby. I've been doing nothing but hiking the local State Park trails for the last 2 months. My brother Kevin and I were into it. He is the one that got me into detecting 20 years ago or so. He has an MXT but hasn't used it for a while. He doesn't understand the whole Copper fixation and still says silver is what he would be after. I don't think he would have time to detect due to his bicycle racing obsession. He is very good at it and won many trophies over the years. Today we will be hiking a trail at Little Pine state Park here in central Pa. some of these trails are difficult in snow and ice. Later Doug.

Great find! Congrats!
Hey, in about 10 months you can have a 200th birthday party for it! ;D If you remember by then.
I'm still striving for one of those Draped Bust Largies. My oldest so far is an 1818 Classic head type.
I did find an 1804 Half cent last october, So I know I'm getting close!
But I want A FULL-SIZED one! Maybe this season. lol.
Anyways, congrats again! Sweet find!

Sweet Find ! I would have to agree I wouldnt do a thing to it , I found one just like it and completly ruined it by trying to bring out the detail and now all I have is a round coin with nothing on it .....I kick myself every time I see it in my relic collection but you live and you learn ....

I think I would leave it alone until a proven technology to clean it is developed

SUPER LARGE CENT. GLAD YOU COULD GET OUT AND HUNT.
