So, I think I found a 1979 double die quarter. Here’s the story:

I was working on cleaning my house, when I found some coins on my moms dresser. I asked my mother to look at them after seeing 2 Lincoln Commemoratives in the pile of 5 coins. She said yes, and I looked at them.

Keep in mind, she is visually impaired. There is no way for her to know that these coins were commemoratives and a possible double die.

While looking at the lone quarter, I noticed what looked like doubling on the 1 in 1979.

Pictures WITHOUT a magnifier.

It looks very obvious, you can see it with the naked eye. I even looked at it under a microscope with a flashlight shining on it. The real 1 and the suspected double are both casting a shadow. However, I’m going to have a professional at a coin shop look at it and try to confirm it.

Until I get it confirmed or proved false, what do you guys think?

Sorry, but, IMO it's just a heavily damaged coin. Probably took a hit years ago that caused that hump of metal that looks like a doubled 1, and through more years if wear, it disguised the evidence of that damage.

Before I say this, keep in mind I’m not trying to argue. If a piece of metal was raised up by damage, wouldn’t it leave an indentation on one side or the other side?

What makes you think that just one digit and not all four numbers as well as all the letters wouldn't be doubled on a double die coin?
If you can get 26 cents for it sell it now.

Look, I’m sorry. I thought it was something. I guess I am just not smart when it comes to coin hunting.

Back into the piggy bank it goes.....

jnichols. No need to be sorry. However, while you are on the internet, remember, the info available is amazing. Just use any search engine and type in the info you are looking for.
Good luck to you! I hope you find a 1913 V nickel or a 1943 copper cent!
