I havent found anything exiting to post in awhile but today I found probably the best coin of my detecting career. Today after finding 4 wheat pennies in 4 hours In a pounded park, but with alot of history I put my detector away and was done for the day. I went back to chat with the guys before leaving and got a few jabs about leaving. I said ok I wil give it another 30 min, am I glad I did. After a few more wheats I headed near the tennis courts, the area is loaded with tennis ball can caps but stuck with it. At about min 28 I got a crappy signal and dug a 5 inch deep plug, stuck my pinpointer in and got an equally crappy signal then took about 3 more inches and got a good signal. I then took some dirt out with my hand and saw the edge of a big silver, I thought it was an 8 real because i saw a little if the bust lady, called my 2 buds over and told them it was an 8 real. Yes. My freind pulled it out and said its no 8 reale its american as he was looking at the eagle., I snatched it out of his hands and my heart sank I thought it was modern silver. Then i realized what it was, my first bust coin and a half to boot. The condition is amazing allthough it has an old scratch throught the sheild its still in amazing condition.
I want to thank all of you for all the nice comments and for making the banner. I have looked at this coin for hours and am still on cloud 9. I took the advice of giving it a gentle rinse (NO BRUSH) and took a few pics, I can only dream of ever topping this find. It is a find of a lifetime. Again thank you all.
Marty

I have been reading this forum for about four years. Around the time i started detecting. This is my first time writting in though. That has to be the most beautiful coin i have ever seen on here. There is no point in saying Banner because you are already on it. Also i just want to say i have been on other forums and nothing compares to Treasure Net. It doesnt matter if you have been detecting for years or if your a novice, if you have a DFX or just a Bounty Hunter, male or female everyone is treated the equally. You all are truly an amazing group of people. It is a great inspiration for me to read all your posts. I look forward to it everyday. On the days i dont have much luck detecting i can still enjoy reading your posts. I especially like reading Crusaders and Silver Searchers posts. Their finds are amazing! Along with their knowledge. PBK included! As soon i am able to get a camera i will be posting my finds and getting caught up with everyone. In the mean time i was wondering, i have a scanner for the computer, and although i know its not as good as a camera, is it possible to scan your coins to show them? Im wondering because we have had the scanner for awhile and never used it. Congratulations to Marty on a "fantastic find of a lifetime." Yours Truly Art Of Fact

Ps. Sorry the post is so long but i have a lot to say.

That is the finest dug bust half dollar I have ever seen CONGRATS...............

Beats my 1813 bust by a long shot WTG............................

When I saw this posting today, and didn't see evidence that I'd responded, I checked the date: June 14. No wonder I missed it, right in the heart of baseball season. I'm glad it resurfaced; she's an incredibly beautiful coin! I've been fortunate to find 3 Bust coins: an 1831 half, an 1829 half dime and an 1810 half (the latter in my dad's drawer after he died). Yours puts them all to shame! A real beauty!

Wow that's a beautiful coin! I love those halves and I've decided if I want one I'll have to buy one. Congrats!

It's been awhile since the original post, but I still like to take a look at the coin every now and then. What a monstrous coin that is. Have you sent it to be authenticated yet? Let us see some pics when it comes back slabbed.
How that coin remained in that incredible shape, and you dug it so shallow.......wonders never cease.

WoW!!!!! :hello2: Very Nice. I can only Dream of finding something like that. That is why I go hunting!!! That is what it is all about. Finding thing's that tell you about the history of our great nation...

WTG!!!!!

Keep digging

Can you please very carefully clean the dirt off of the date? I believe you have a very valueable coin...but not sure yet... I believe you have a 1812 2 over 1 with Large 8...

I agree, I started shaking and tears rolled up in my eyes when I saw this coin!! :o Dude this is an 1812 2 Over 1 with large 8 and..... Its in outstanding condition.... :headbang: Get this coin graded. I can't grade it right cause its dug but if I have to give it a grade I'd say above AU-50. :icon_scratch: Let me put it this way if it was not dug it would be Mint State MS-60+ but being dug they may not give it that high. So to be safe I'm giving it AU-50 and in my 2007 outdated redbook lol, Its a $19,000 dollar coin at AU-50.... SO BANNER FOR SURE!!! :o

Don't do anything to it and have it graded... Outstanding Find !! :notworthy: :notworthy:

Keep @ it and HH!! :hello2: :laughing7:
