I had just found my first V nickel a few days ago, went back to the same spot and found my 2nd (1897).
Dug a green 1865 Indian and an ornate brass object a few feet away.
Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

The ornate brass thing looks like it could have been part of a fire poker or maybe a handle for a knife sharper. My mom had a knife sharpener that ha a wooden handle that had the same square to hold the sharpening steel. But I am sure it could have been for many uses even a bed knob comes to mind.

Thanks for the suggestions on what the brass item could have been. It does feel like a handle when I hold it.
I also found this coin spill. Thought they were zinc pennies because they were so crusty. But 3 1960’s pennies and a 51 wheat.
