I recently started going through a leather pouch with pennies. I ran across this one, 1961 Steel (magnet picks it up), has some rust on one edge, but very clearly stamped. Any idea what it is or its worth?

So it's bezeled then like those coin necklaces. I wonder why? There's not really any way in it present form to wear it or hanging it from anything.
I have had few dimes put in bezels to be worn on a silver chain for a friend, the dates on those dimes being the birth years of her birth year and the birth year of her kids. Simple, but something she really liked.

It was someone's birth year placed in a bezel to wear on a charm bracelet. The bezel loop has broken off. :)

I also found a 1961 penny that is silver on front and back with edge a copper color and it does stick to a magnet and not by the edges. It was not part of a pendant or necklace or rim from being attached to anything. Anyone ever find one?

Look at the last post, I found one as well.👍 Mine was NOT from a pendant or something else like people are talking about.

It's very common to find silver colored cents that are attracted to a magnet. It's been plated most likely with nickel, you can see the mushy kind of blobby details from the plating. You'd be surprised how often they show up on the coin forums.

Here’s the one I dug the other day. I thought it was a Zincoln, but it’s a 1982 which shows as the same composition as yours. First rusty penny I’ve ever dug.

"Zincolns" were introduce to the public use in mid-1982.
