Does anyone know something about this penny? It is labeled as "Silver Plated" but I don't know because it is magnetic. It sticks pretty weak to the magnet. It weighs 3.1 grams. On the edges you can see that the plating is faded or has been missed. 1504749395186.webp1504749360847.webp1504904402687.webp

Could the magnet be sticking to the staples? it could be silver plated, you can do plating at home with some simple equipment. It doesn't work to well though. so, yeah, IMO, this penny is probably plated by some individual.

How's this for a conundrum?
I found one of those plated pennies one time too, but have no answers as to how or why.

See post #6 on YOUR OTHER THREAD on this item.

Please let me add that there are several white to silver color metals than can be easily plated onto pennies using common household chemicals. There is no way I can determine through images or photographs which of these it could be.

As a young kid, we broke a mercury thermometer, and used the mercury to turn a penny silver. Did this by holding the mercury in the palm of the hand and used a finger to rub the mercury into the copper. I'm supposed to be dead now from the stuff we did as kids, but that might be what you found, except that doesn't account for the magnet attraction.
