I got permission to hunt this abandoned property near my house. As anyone in nh knows, there's still a ton of snow around. The only clear area was near the doors and around the front of the barn. I was out around 15 minutes in front of the barn , had a few hits, couldn't get the shovel in the ground. Then I had a spot I could dig. Out popped this...

Then I went near the front door, same thing , solid ground. After 25 minutes , I was going to quit but figured I give it 10 more minutes because I haven't used the detector since December. I got a big hit 4 inches down so of course when it reads " dollar" its gotta be a can right. I almost NEVER dig those. But since it was a residence , I did. Good thing......

I felt like I was going to pass out or act like the diggers!!! I'll be going back at some point , that's for sure!!! Come on spring.

Nice finds!

neat!

I've never found a steel cent. Wonder what keeps them from corroding in the ground. :dontknow:

Congrats on your super day! Yours is the second Peace Dollar dug on t-net this week! And in excellent condition too! :occasion16::wav::occasion16:

My very first silver coin was an eyeball surface find dusty 1923 Peace Dollar which is very dear to me as I've avocated for peace my whole life. Ironically on silver coin finds, I've only actually dug one silver coin in 3 years of detecting - a 1941 Merc, puzzling but also funny as I watch some t-netters including my son pull silver coin after silver coin!
HAVE FUN! Andi

From what i've read, there's a slight zinc coating which stops it.

Nice, interesting to find a steel penny still in that good of shape.

Last year ,I only dug 2 so I guess i'm in the same boat there. What I find ridiculous about that is I've foung 6 indians ,a large cent and 2 kg's, would have thought silver would be there along with that.

That zinc coating is no different than the copper coating on modern cents. It doesn't last. I have dug steel cents and every single one was a rust disc. NEVER seen a shiny one out of the dirt before.

Uncommon patina on that cent, really nice shape. And the silver came out pretty good too, it's got some wear but nowhere near what a lot of turn of the century coins that get posted here have.

It didn't get shiny until I took a nylon brush to get off the crap. The pic of the back might make it seem shinier than it is,the flash on the camera kind of lit it up. It was near the entrance of the barn, under a rock.Maybe thats why its in good shape?

Amazing.....

She's a beauty. Congratulations

every time I've ever dug a steel cent, it has always been reduced to practically nothing but layers of rust. yours is amazing. must have excellent drainage there. that dollar is sweet.

Very Nice and unusual finds - there really aren't many 1943 zinc coated steal cents dug up and posted here ( Not too difficult to understand - that signal has to look iron/trashy ) Peace dollars are a tough find as well !!! It had to have been difficult to lose one of those bad girls ! ( I realized after seeing a few posts , that the rarity here is in the condition of your zinc/steel - I've never seen a dug up one in that condition - they always come out rusty and crusty ! )

( my first and only - so far - Silver Dollar was also a 1923-S Peace Dollar)

Great silver. I never expect anything other than an aluminum siding scrap or canslaw either. I hope to be pleasantly surprised in my efforts while I am still capable to recognize one, lol.:icon_thumright:
