Used to collect coins here and there then throw them in a box . I recently was sorting throu a box and came across several wheat pennies. And this coin stood out to me. I couldnt put my mind around it but it eventually came to me. Maybe its me, ive not ever seen this before and it is probably nothing and just a common thing. Can someone explain it. Im intrigued. In 1943 during WW11, they pulled the copper out of the penny to make ammunition for the war. They had to use another metal for the penny, so for the one year they used steel. It was the same for the silver war Nickels. They pulled out other metals, and inserted .35 % silver

Someone tell me... Are the "S" steelies more rare? I went through mine and found one and another with just a bump instead of the S.

Only by Location. the S would be more Prevalent on the West coast. The Philadelphia Mint (No Mint Mark)
East Coast. But after all these years, Not quite as Rare as back when they were released.

the S has the lowest mintage, but not enough to matter on circulated coins

Are you referring to the fact that it's steel or are you curious about the apparent 2nd "face" on the coin? I think it's just pareidolia.

Hmm Never entered My Mind.
If it's really there. It's an altered Coin & imo Value Drops.
Unless it's a Hobo Penny.
Otherwise Yes, interesting bit of Pareidolia But Don't clean.

Right.
Chapo, could you post a pic of the obverse, that isn't out of focus, for us? Thanks!
Whatever, the reverse looks to be in great shape...., so great find there, guy...! :icon_thumright:

Nice steel penny. Haven't found one yet. Congrats to you for that nice one.

In my opinion if those Lines are on the Coin it's now worth 1 Cent

Thanks Jeff. Guess I'll throw it back in the cup with the rest of them.

Sorry about those lines yes i was highlighting some areas for a friend. I have just now retaken a few more of both sides. It hasnt been touched in years and no one altered it or photoshopped it or anything but how it was found. I dont think this was done deliberately. Thanks for the feedback. Any thoughts on it are welcome. 20190511_021333.jpg20190511_021131.jpg20190511_020047.jpg

Im not to good on posting and how this all works. Seems i thought i was adding new photos i just took but they went somewhere else. Thanks for all the input and yes those lines were just that; i highlighted the face for a friend and wasnt thinking when i originally posted here on Tnet. Heres a few i took 5 minutes ago.20190511_021124.jpg

Just a normal steel cent, with a little bit of environmental damage.

I found another coin online that is a 1995 lincoln cent and i think i see the faint image that is on my 43 s . does anyone else see what i see or am i just overly looking at this. Whats the possibilty that ive found a new oddity? I cant find it anywhere online and somebody has to be the first to discover something . any ideas or thoughts?20120925_Image161_opt.jpg
