1940 babydoll cookie jar?

A photowould help. I'm not aware of any baby doll cookie jars that date to 1940. Not saying there aren't any, just that I don't know of any. That being said, there are a few cookie jars out there that could be describes as "baby doll". One of those is the Candy Girl cookie jar produced by Metlox in the era you are referring to. You say it is sandy colored and there is a "bow" in her hair so i'm thinking this is probably what you have, if so, it's a good one. However, if the cold paint is worn or missing this will diminish the value by as much as 60% or more. Is this your cookie jar-

Book value $375-$400 in mint condition, you can realistically expect about half of that in the same condition, as book values are usually not market prices.
