1930's Brass Ring with Clasp? No idea what this may be...

Found this today at a 1930's dump site. Seems to be brass or copper and measures about 3" in diameter. Has a large clasp on the bottom. Any ideas (or guesses) would be appreciated!

My wild guess is pocket watch chain clasp. Look in an old Sears Roebuck catalog. Kinda large but maybe.

Good guesses, but I don't think so. The pins on the side are kind of sharp, so it would be painful to use as a key chain, watch chain clasp or as a men's "accessory"!

I HATE finding things I can't identify! More guesses, please!

Bull nose ring is a definite possibility!Very good guess! Most of the bull nose rings on eBay are also around 3" in diameter. The pins may have been inserted after the ring was placed in the nose to keep it from coming out. The clasp doesn't seem too logical for a bull ring, but maybe it was a new design that didn't catch on.

At least I have something to go on now. I'll be doing a Google image search for bull nose rings until I find this one. Thanks for the great suggestion, stanevolodge!

I don't think it is a bull nose ring because I don't see any way of inserting it into his nose. To me it looks more like a ring that would have gone on a wagon/buggy/stagecoach that would hold items like pots, pans, coffee pots, etc. for traveling. Note that all of the wear is on the bottom of the ring where the items hung and swung. The 2 post close to the clasp would have kept the items from hanging flat to the wagon.

Or a ring that would have hung on a knapsack or tool belt that would help carry items.
Interesting find :)

Breezie,

Gee, I was happy with the bull nose ring answer, but now you've got me thinking again! More Google image searches for me!

You would think I could find a picture of this ring somewhere online! So annoying!

Basically it works the same as a modern key ring, which is why I think the purpose was to 'hold' and 'carry' some type of item, and the item(s) could be easily accessed if needed.

I know, doesn't it drive you crazy not knowing for sure! :laughing7:
