when I saw this half crown coin in a cache of foreign coins placed in a small medal tackle box - I was perplexed. It looked silver and felt like silver in my hand and was not magnetic. So I wondered was this an error coin, a counterfeit coin, or something else? Looking at the same coin on E-bay, the date is in the wrong place and some text is on the wrong side.
That would be an error on both sides of coin. Doesn't seem likely. Did someone pass off as a real silver half crown? What do you think?

Another odd coin in this batch of foreign coins was a 14/16" round coin pendant medal from France with "NAPOLEON EMPEREUR" on it. It's a nice looking
medal. I see someone on E-bay is selling one for $150.00. It's listed as vintage but no real date assigned to it. I'm wondering if this was possibly given to US soldiers who fought in WWI in France? Anybody have any idea on this piece? Thanks!

The British coin is a halfpenny, with Britannia on the reverse. Someone has ‘silvered’ it, for whatever reason, but not to pass it off as a half crown. The halfpenny would be about 25mm diameter with a weight of 5.67g, versus a half crown at about 32mm and a weight of 14.14g. You couldn't mistake one for the other.

The medallion isn’t rare. If someone is trying to sell at $150 he's just a typical fleabay chancer hoping to attract a gullible buyer. There are lots of these around with minor differences in design produced as patriotic souvenir memorabilia but they’re vintage-modern, not contemporary with Napoleon’s reign as Emperor and were mostly produced in the years after WWII ended. Here’s a similar one on fleabay for $10, although it has a busted loop.

ok thanks! It's 25mm. Definitely a halfpenny. I think someone put a heavy coating of silver on coin and then made a Tie Clip Tie Bar out of it. They may have passed off as a half crown tie bar. In the US, you could be easily fooled by such a maneuver esp. prior to the Internet and coin sites. Thanks for identifying coin.

ok thanks for that info. My grandfather was in US Army in the war, and spent time in England, France, and Germany. Yeah, I see one for $22 that looks a lot like what I have in color and material. It's listed
as

VINTAGE 14/16-INCH ROUND COIN PENDANT MEDAL "NAPOLEON EMPEREUR"

I figured they were made after WWI or WWII. Thanks again for your response.
