1916 s or d Merc on 3rd outing with my new SE
I took my SE out for the first time last Wed and Thurs down to St Louis. Didn't know where I was going and especially did not know how to use the SE. I hunted the same place both days and found a 42 Merc, 8 wheats (1913 the oldest), 1 silver ring and over $9 in clad. I went out today back in Wisc at a home that was built in the 1840's. I got a reading that was bouncing between 1-28, 2-29 and 26-28, 27-29. It read rather deep so I decided to see what it was.The Merc was around 6-7 inches. When I was leaving, I decided to wash it off in a puddle. While driving home I tried reading the date but I'm getting old and need my glasses which were not with me. I was almost positive it was a 1916 and I was positive it was either a "s" or "d". Well I couldn't get home fast enough. Got my glasses and saw 1916 without a problem but had a hard time making out the "s" or "d". Found a pair of magnifying glasses and saw the letter "s". Oh well. As soon as I figure out this machine, I believe I will find lots of other older coins. I've found several cast trucks and cars from the 30's and 40's and 12 wheats so far.
