Today my Dad and I decided to take our XLT's out one more time before I have to leave for college. Little did I know that I would make the find of a lifetime at an old farm house just down the road from my house. We had previously hunted the house last week. It produced several wheats, three indian head pennies dating 1895, 1867, and 1865. I had also found my first mercury dime dating 1942, and my first barber dime dating 1912. Eager to hit the old place once more before I have to leave next week we grabbed our detectors and headed out. Driving only a few miles we arrived at about 1:30 this afternoon. We decided to hunt in the front yard to see if we had missed any coins from the last hunt. The answer to that question was quickly resovled when dad and I each found a few wheats dating 1919, and 1937. As always, this made us continue to hunt hard for old coins. Although, after searching the entire front yard and some of the side yard we had managed to find only a couple more wheaties. Unable to search the back yard due to thick briars we decided to dedicate the rest of our time to hunting the side yards. After about an hour we had found only a couple more wheats, and i began to feel discouraged thinking my silver streak was over. But that all changed when I got a solid signal next to a big tree in the side yard. The VDI on my XLT read +81 and i just knew I was about to dig another silver dime. I dug about 3 inches down with my predator digging tool when I saw the edge of a silver dime. I grabbed it quickley and when i saw the date i was astonished it read 1916. Seeing that it had a mint mark i was even more astonished. As soon as we got home we checked the mint and amazingly it was a d!! The coin is pretty worn with a few scratches but nonetheless a 1916 D Mercury!

Thank's to everyone who voted banner! Just wondering how post's make the banner, is it number of votes or do the moderators pick? Thanks again.

Great Find!

I vote BANNER!

Nice coin! It would probably grade G-4 Scratched.

It almost looks like the Mercs are polished in the photo of all the finds together.

Congrats on a Valuable find,

Buck
