Last two coins have been halves. Found a 1873 seated about 2 months ago. Coins are few and far between here now but if they keep being halves I will take it. Had found probably a half dozen overall buttons in this exact same small area. Quess I just had the right angle, right settings and right soil conditions today. Probably a lot of luck to very very iffy signal. Good luck everyone!

oh my, big time gratz on the barber half, still looking for my first, wtg

That's a sweet find! I would assume the signal was iffy because it was laying flat in the ground to give a good return signal.
I grew up in a historical home in my town and I searched the yard every year for 40 years and always managed to find stuff I had missed before. I tried every soil condition such as hot, cold, damp, dry, muddy, as well as different sweep speeds with my coil and every angle of approach I could think of. Probably the most iffy signal I ever had was a 1917 walking liberty half that was almost 8 inches down but was standing nearly on edge, It seemed to have just barely enough angle on it to send the return signal back to where it nearly missed my coil. Kind of a ricochet effect for a lack of better words.
Keep at that place and you'll probably turn up some more good stuff

Nice hunt GREAT FIND :)

Congratulations on that half. Sure someone was mad they lost it. Still looking for one.
