1909-S VDB found

Tough to value that coin. You don't see that kind of corrosion on wheats too often. AU details? Heavily corroded, um... $500-$600 probably... Worth more than 9 out 10 gold coins that make the banner.

Therefore--my vote is in.

GREAT COIN! I still need to buy one...

Yah, I am amazed, not one banner vote either. Weird considering this is THE coin to find of the Lincoln series.

Amazing Find. Could you post new pic after the sonic cleaning and olive oil bath?

Nice find Dave! My banner vote is in. Looking forward to seeing it at the meeting Friday.

No doubt it's a banner find. Lets get a bunch more votes for it.......Congrats on that beauty!!!

A coin of that magnitude, I wouldn't do anything not even dip it in alcohol or acetone. I would get with a coin dealer and have it sent off for conservation and grading as is.

I've had good luck using Ketchup to clean pennys - might want to try that. Congrats on an awesome find. Just kidding about the ketchup :tongue3:

Great idea, it will make it look nice and shiney... It will lose about 70% of its value, but still...

NEVER EVER CLEAN a coin. You will cause damage you can never fix. The worst natural gunk is better than the best job wizzing up a coin...

Totally agree here

A sandblaster should get that remaining patina out of the way.:laughing7:

If the coin had little or limited value, cleaning it yourself might be an option..........but, that coin has value.
Take it to an expert for restoration...........

Wonderful find.........still looking for mine...................

OMG thats an awesome find. Congrats.
I highly recommend VERDI Care, you can order a bottle online... I always use Wizard Coin Supply. Verdi Care will stop the green from contaminating any more of that beautiful coin! If you check out coin community forum one of the members there actually developed verti care... (BadThad) I know they would love to see this coin. Hope you don't mind if I post a link to yours on there site.
Amazing find. So happy for you! Do you plan on submitting it to a TPG? Third party grading company... PCGS, NGC, ANACS are the top three.

OMFG!!... LOL You scared me and I scared everyone in the room... As I read you used a wire brush I let out a god awful scream.. """NO"""" My wife asked what happened... Did someone die... When I told her what happened she said what the hells wrong with you scaring me like that... lol
OHH what a relief its safe...lol That find is going to fetch a pretty penny..lol all puns intended. I couldn't resist linking your post on coincommunity forum. Hope you don't mind. But as many have mentioned this is the holy grail of Lincoln Cents.

Also thought this may help. I went with AU58 but as just a base line seeing how crisp those wheat lines are.
Here's some additional info you may find useful.

Sorry if you already mentioned this but what kind of detector were you using when you uncovered this gem?
Thanks again for posting... talk about recharging the batteries.

Silverstackerkid.. do you use Verdicare? I love the stuff. Putts a whooping on the mean green without compromising toning.. color or anything.. Absolutely love the stuff.

They'll probably put some Coin Care on it and call it good! :laughing7: Maybe put it in a case too......

Currently it has been soaking in olive oil for about 3 months. Not really doing anything to it besides just letting it soak.
I am hoping this will eventually get that crud off the coin.
I did talk with a few dealers. Dealers don't handle coins like this anymore for submission. They say the
liability of sending it in, etc. is too much trouble.
If I want to do it myself, I have to join NGC BEFORE I can submit to NCS. I think I calculated it out
at $65 just to get it evaluated and that is only for them to tell you whether they will will conserve it or not.
This is the direction I will go if the olive oil will not soak the green crud off it over time.
Thanks all.
