Mint mark is an initial D or S - For Denver or San Francisco ,No visible mintmark would indicate that it was minted in Philidelphia .
Mint marks matter because coin values are related to two factors - 1. original mintage figures 2. condition . Argentium.

To expand on this... Value is also dependent on surviving population and demand. If there is no market for it the price will be low even if there are very few pieces available. Usually what I do for values is check eBay ended listings. You can throw out guide book values all day but those are for full retail prices you'd pay at a coin shop for problem free coins. Usually dug coins have issues but of course some come out problem free and I've seen some even graded by the grading companies. This coin appears to have been in water for a long time. Unfortunately that affects value. If its a common date it might only be worth its silver value - around $6. But that being said finding a barber quarter is a scarce feat and it would be priceless to any finder. A good book for rough (retail) values and info is the Redbook by Whitman. Should run you about $15 and its definitely worth it. Congrats!

Thanks for the information i did find the quarter on a beach about 6 inches deep in sand. I don't want to sell it anyways I like it much haha. Thanks again for all the helpful information

Gently, because silver scratches easily from toothbrushes and fingers. You also don't want to remove that dark patina, so no silver tarnish remover.

I also feel compelled to recommend buying the Red Book of US Coins - more for the condition grading guides and mint mark locations. It's a handy reference, no matter what year it's from. (That's not my auction, BTW, just a random pic from Google.)

On the Barber quarter, the mint mark is located here:
