The old schoolhouse has now been relegated to "standby" status. I'll only go there when I've no "new" places to go, or if I want to look specifically for gold rings and nickels.
I will always have fond memories of the 12 days I spent hunting there. I first stepped onto the lot on 10-28 and hit it pretty much daily until today 11-10, most days for just a couple hours, but a couple days I hit it pretty hard.
Total finds in 12 days, aside from a few dollars in modern "clad":
1 coal mine token "good for one exploder"
2 President tokens ca 1960s James Polk and James Garfield
a couple rolls of wheat pennies....I don't even save them since they're dug and damaged...except the 1909..I kept that one
2 indian head pennies, a bent 1903 and a 1906
3 sterling silver rings and a tiny silver military "stripes" part of a medal
35 silver coins, shown in the picture attached. Actually, there's one war nickel missing from the photo. I took another picture, but my finicky floppy disks sometimes won't work right, so I opted to just use this picture. It's enough to get the idea. This place was like stepping back into the old days of this hobby, when silver was easy to find. It's gotten very hard now....not even a silver dime the last 2 trips out, and there are so many places around here...that I guess "my work here is done" if finding silver is the name of the game, which it is for me.
I have a couple more old places that I'll be detecting before the snow flies, but this place is burned into my memory banks as the best place I've found in 20 years.
Thanks for enduring my excitement. It was a thrill a minute for awhile. I'm glad to have you all to share the excitement with.
Best of luck to all......and we'll have to see what the future holds for me in the way of finds. If nothing else, there are so many old yards here that still have silver, that I'll never be without a place to swing the coil. I'll bet none of them stack up to this place individually. This place was "special".
