I found the sweet spot at a place I have been hunting for a couple of years and it took that long to dial in . I am hunting untouched ground back to 1880 and is private . I have been digging v nickels back to 1887 IHP back to 1900 . A 1909 cuff link and another undated cuff link . Everything is six inches or deeper and you really have to work for it with the ATP and the 5x8 coil . Signals are not the best most of the time so you have to dig junk . I get an iffy signal last night and it sounds kinda coiny . coiny not a word but using it . Eight inches down not in the plug but in the side wall is a 1903 s mint dime that I barley scraped with my shovel as the pinpoint could not dial in as the coin was standing up not laying down .Do I have something here ? s-l1600 1903.jpgs-l1600 1903-2.jpg

Congrats on the semi-key date dime ! Although perhaps not full "liberty", that would still fetch a bit of $$.

Oh, but I must warn you: Key date "S" mint coins are only for the west Coast and CA guys to find (since we're close to SF mint). Anyone east of the Rockies (and ESPECIALLY east of the Mississippi) are only allowed to find "P" mints. Tsk tsk. After all, we can't get the reams of large cents and colonial coppers they get, so.... what's fair is fair.

So send me that dime. I will absolve your conscience of all guilt. Thank you.

pretty awesome dime, congrats on the S mint find

Congrats on the awesome dime- you west coasters may not get all the old copper we east-coasters get, but i am so jealous of all the "S" mint rarities you guys are always posting!

What a beautiful coin great save and yes that's a good one

Excellent dime, congrats! Even at F-12 it's worth $350.

My most valuable dug coin is also a 1903s barber dime. Nice to see somebody find one too!

Cool, very nice looking coin.

Thanks guys . Against the wind.....What is the Cracked Die Effect ? The line by the nose ? What does that do for the coin ? Less or more ? I have several ppl offering me a couple hundred bucks so I think it may be worth something . To bad I dinged it with my shovel . First time I have done that .

Like I said above, even at f-12 it would be worth $350. These are a tough date, people pay big bucks even for very worn examples.

It is strange the line doesn't go through the nose. Can you get a better shot of the obverse?

So what do you think it is worth then ?

I guess those pics are no better .
