Lets start by saying that this by far my oldest dog tag that I found.
Previously I believe it was a 1938.
I talked with Watercolor last night and made plans to show him an old cellar hole / farm stead that dates back to
1850's or earlier.
It is in a small section of woods that is bounded by expressways and roads.
This wooded area is only maybe 3 blocks long by 2 blocks wide.
The nice thing about it is it is only a few blocks from my house.
All that remains of it is a couple of large indentations, the large boulders where the barn rested on and
the boulders where another building rested on.
I have yet to find any coins but lots of relics.
Today was the first time that something with a date was found.
I have only been out there maybe 6 to 8 times .

Here are some pictures of the dog tag.

It would be nice to see some other old tags so lets start posting them for all to see.

Hey Watercolor any time you want to go out there feel free to go. I know there is some type of old coin out there..someplace

Thanks all for looking and I hope to see some more tags

Hey SHINNY PUPPY lets see that 1921....

WOW!!!!

All these tags are so cool.
I have to look and see if I have some of the other ones that I have found over the years.

THANKS ALL for posting them.

But don't stop here lets see some more.

That cat one is different....

My oldest:
I have been told that it could sell for $100-150.

Neat finds, folks. Those pre-1900 ones are especially amazing!

Anyone notice any recurring VDI patterns on tags like these?

Well I can't speak for pre-1900s but the ones from the 1940s read 45-50

Nice post ! Here's mine ..... most of them I found when I worked for a guy tearing down barns in the early 80's . Seems like they were aways hanging on nails on the walls . The Penn. one I dug , it still has the choker chain collar . It's interesting how the WW II era ones switched to some sorta cardboard/composit after 1942 to conserve on brass . I have more kickin around here somewhere .

Here's mine. I've got a 1908 around here somewhere. It was quite fragile, and broke when I was cleaning it. This one is my favorite, though:

OK, here's my dog tags. I'm pretty sure the two stamped "Licensed Male" are dog tags, although they may just be very strict in Duluth, MN.

Dave,
Great collection of tags you have there. A lot of unusual ones.
Congrats,
MM

Hey All, I'm just getting back into the hobby. This is my only pet tag so far. Found a 67 penny right next to it.
