Got permission in March to detect an older home site after helping the owner locate his wife's missing wedding ring.
I went there today to detect for the first time and was finding nothing but clad and zincolns. Most were in the 4" to 6" range. I finally get a nickel reading at 7" and hope it's a buffalo. When I carefully cleaned it off, I see a "V" on the back side and know what I've got immediately. Tried to clean it just enough to read the date and it's a 1901! Sweet! There was a ton of iron everywhere and the nickel was surrounded by plenty of those signals. I didn't find any silver yet but with a "V" nickel there, I should be able to see some silver surface...
