Lads, one piece of advice, if you find an old soup can, DON'T THROW IT AWAY!!!! Detecting old (1799) homestead and found lots of old empty steel cans, ie soup, coffee, etc.....was almost ready to leave area when when of the cans I went to throw one of the cans I found away, it went "KATHUNK"........figure trash within trash but opened the lid and wrapped in oilskin was the most beautiful 1901 twenty dollar gold piece with a lovely "O" mint mark......yes the heart did a skippy.....but just remember if you are in a trashy area.....Always check the questionable!!!

Honestly, time outs? Are we all 6. If they states that he found something that is clearly refuted by others who know what they are talking about Don not attack them. Attack the phoney person. This is the problem with this country; no accountability!

Maybe it's a counterfeit. There are no pictures yet, so we need to hold off until the story becomes clearer.

I suggest members don't push their luck....

You had better go through every can there is and shake it hard for more of anything the raddles or moves in the can, or better yet open every can and see for your self that's its empty for SURE!!!!!!!!!! YOU COULD GET VERY, VERY LUCKY in deed

When I was up at my mother's house 2 weeks ago, a thought occurred to me right when I was leaving. My mom and dad bought the house in the 80s from a family that had owned it since the 1930s. My father died 6 months after they bought the house and it has largely remained unchanged as he never had the chance to do anything with it. Stuff has been added over the years but it is mostly a dingy, old, empty cellar. I would say the last time I went down there was about 10 years ago when I did some plumbing work and insulation.

Along the cellar walls, directly below the windows where there is the lip of the foundation (for lack of a better term?), there are very old cans of various products. Lacquers, paints, coffees, etc. Just all lined up with no rhyme or reason. They've been there since mom and dad purchased the house. Now I had been joking (but hoping) with my mom all week that we were going to find a coffee can full of gold coins like that couple in California (we didn't). I said to her as I was ready to leave, "you know? has anyone ever checked all those cans in the cellar?"

We both stared at each other for a moment and realized we hadn't. At this point I was running extremely late for my 5 hour ride home. My mom is almost 70 and the stairs leading down to the basement are, for all intents and purposes, a death trap waiting to spring. To get down there you would probably have to go through the barn through several questionable barn basements.

Long story less long, I REALLY need to check the 20 or so cans in mom's basement when I go up next weekend. I will post pictures if I find any 20 dollar gold coins.
