Thats a great find, what mode were you using at the time of the find? and did you have Tone ID on?
I almost always use the jewelry/beach setting on the DFX. Tone ID is a must. HH dave.

It "said" 7 inches. How deep was it?

Nice find. :)
My best guess would be about 5 1/2 inches. I dug about a 6 inch plug and the beginning of the chain was in the the bottom of it and ran deeper into the hole. It actually held the plug in place linking it to the ground. When I saw the shine and realized it was probably "real" gold. I forgot to breathe for a moment. I love this hobby. :)

Tried a local soccer field yesterday. After about 90 minutes, a bazillion pulltabs and 4 bucks in clad. I got a deep "crackle" on the DFX @ around 7 inches deep. Was tired of digging tinfoil but I'm glad I dug one more hole :) 19 inches long and 14k made in italy.. HH dave.
That is sweet. Any idea how old???

Actually I never thought about the age of it. But now that you ask. I have found an 1865 2 cent piece and a 192? buffalo in the same park. I guess it could be rather old. I just assumed a few years. Ill have to research. Any ideas how to ID jewelry anyone? The only markings are "made in Italy" and "14k" Thanks to all for taking time to write. HH dave.

Hello,

Great find!! Can't wait till I get mine!! The way to tell how old jewelry is easy simply the style of design. Over time Designs change. This necklace looks like a modern one the way the links are shaped and such. This was not done before the 21 century.

Keep @ it and HH!!

Thanks, and I'm sure your right, it looks more "modern" to me also. Ive never found a chain before and have been told that detectors have a hard time locating them. I feel much better now. :) HH, dave.

Congrats on the gold! Those gold chains sound a lot like foil unless they are balled up, I have been fortunate to find a few and they are iffy signals. HH, Mike

Super find. That is the reason that I dig all signals. Sometimes they can read as trash. In this case, this find is definitely not trash.
