Was it with the pennies?

LT

I had twice previously detected this place and only came out with clad and a few wheats. I dig zinc penny sounds because lots of keepers coins come in at that range. Like the 1873 half dime I recovered some months back.

The Barber quarter was a target that gave off a sound similar to a smashed aluminum can, sounding like a high pitched violin stroke (beginning sharply at the start, and abruptly ending), and it basically sounded off at 2 angles out of 4. That was because it was near an iron target.

It gave off a short and sharp deep coin sound when I swept the coil over it in pinpoint mode. On the smartscreen the crosshairs hoped along the top, from a quarter, to above the zinc penny range, mostly hitting at the quarter. It was about 7” deep and the place had detecting holes here and there.

I use the stock MineLab SE with the Slimline Coil. I hunt in AM mode, ferrous tones, manual noise cancel. And occasionally I’ll adjust the gains down from 8 if I’m getting too much ground noise. I also sweep the coil slowly in well hunted areas or when needed, and at times I just about hover over the target to see if it locks on with a high pitch. If I get a signal that I want to investigate, I might toggle over to the stock smartscreen settings using the iron mask button to check it out.
