That's a Love Token.....I found one made from an 1856 $2.5 dollar gold coin.....from what I read about them the initials on the back was from the giver. ....my inscription was of an oil well scene. ....these and yours are cool finds....The art on the back is done by hand....I now see the "1st Bat" on yours....could be military. ..and rare I would think...I have not seen military love tokens on line before .

That's my take too. Nowadays there are coins made for military units with the intent of being a unit coin. Back then people just used what was on hand. Possibly the denomination was done based on rank.

I looked up the 1st Battalion 1890 1891 I found that the 1st was at Pine Ridge Better known as Wounded Knee .Tried to find their roster but no luck. Not saying your coin is involved with Pine Ridge but you never know .When i saw that the hair on my neck stood up.

Thats a great love token WormtownFJRand it will have value especially if you can ID the soldier. I agree it must be related to his military service and you may be able to pin it down when you find the roster. These tokens are one of a kind and much more interesting than plain coins.

I found a silver love token, quarter size that I found here in Florida and was never able to positively identify with help from Treasurenet members even though I have a complete name Jo Ann L. Hall and dates. The dates are 3 days apart which is very strange. Im thinking birth and death dates of a child.
12-30-43 ---1-2-44. I dont know what century.
