Sweet digs and congrats on your 1st Spanish silver!! :headbang:

Congrats on your first Spainish , I have yet to find a confirmed Spainish silver in 4 yrs of detecting . That said . I think I like the Bayonet badge better than the silver Interesting piece ! ! Nice finds M.R.

the silvers are both very nice indeed but i feel like the merc is interesting itself. it almost looks fake

Hit spots of the right age and you have a good chance of finding spanish, there seems to be at least one at most of my old sites! Although it appears every second year I don't find any.

AWESOME finds!!!!! MR TUFF

Thanks all. I have found a 1737 Spanish Pistareen, 2 Reales. A 1655 1 Real Spanish Cob, but never one like this.
I am trying to find out what the badge is all about. I am assuming its US military. :dontknow:

Apparently in the late 1800's there were bayonet squads in high schools. So my guess is that is a Lexington High School Bayonet Squad Badge" from Massachusetts.

Congratulations on the mercury dime, oh and the Spanish silver nice to. HH

Yes I am from Mass. Interesting, could you post a link to the site?
Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately there isn't a specific site for that school squad. I did a Google search for Bayonet squad and came up with references to high school bayonet squads in the late 1800's. Then I tried "high school bayonet squad" and came up with:

http://www.artfact.com/auction-lot/lot-of-three-school-military-prizes:-gilt-and-1-c-fddc6f0149
East Boston High School Bayonet squad badge, 1891, named N.R. Adams", marked John Harriott/ Boston" on the top bar.

http://books.google.com/books?id=AX...onepage&q="high school bayonet squad"&f=false
1900, high school drill teams, or battalions, were more popular than school sports teams. The Malden High School bayonet squad is shown here in 1892

Since both schools are in Massachusetts I made the connection that the "HS" is high school and the first letter which looks like an "L" to me might be Lexington. Just a guess.

Upon closer look the first letter might be an E. If so it might be the high school of one of these cities. Eastham, Easthampton, Easton, Essex, or Everett
