Hey everyone!

I have a number of bills that were handed down through the family. We've had them since I've been born, and I've always been very interested in them. But only recently did I realize that one of the bills had (what I thought to be) serial number 21. After seeing a dealer, we realized the "1" was actually a decoration, and what I had was serial number 2.

I never had a chance to share this with you all and wanted to do so! We are most likely consigning the bill to Heritage Auctions for the upcoming Central States Auction in April for those interested.

Nice one !!
The bill commemorates the passing of Winfield Scott Hancock in 1866 following his long career. He participated in the Mexican War and the Civil War in which he was shot but recovered. He was the Democratic candidate for the U.S. presidency in 1880, but was defeated by James A. Garfield.
Some designate this bill as Friedberg No.240 (Rosecrans/Jordan) and a few years ago a retail value range of $675--in F-12--up to $3,750 in Unc.-63 was noted in The Official Red Book. The extremely low serial number should enhance the value of your bill substantially.
Good luck with the HA auction.
Don....
