hi everyone.its saturday here and the weather still holds.anyway on the trip a few weeks ago i found this large machine wheel [weight 250 bls].today i dug it up and found a heep of relics under the wheel silver shillings and english pennys around the 1880 mark and bits of a pocket watch lead balls and a shell pottery,hand made nails brass things no idea.old buttons.glass bottle tops and just about every thing else.the site of the dig was under a peppercorn tree not far from a gold mine.heres some pics

Geez Tinpan...remember when you first started and were hunting all day finding nothing? Things have sure changed for you! WTG on the silver!
 

Nice finds Tinpan, I've heard that peppercorn trees may be an indication of a building site. Don't have any of those trees here, but old pine trees are a very good indication of site this way. :)
 

hi ang.the peppercorn tree is like a sign'DIG HERE PLEASE" i went back to finish the bottom of the hole and used a soil sifter and got few buttons and a badge and a silver pope thingy

and Briers are a Sign of Heavy Foot Traffic.
 

HI EVERYONE,THE NON NATIVE TREES STAND OUT IN THE AUSTRALIAN FLORA.THE BIG OLD ONES STRAND OUT EVEN MORE.THE ONLY WAY NON NATIVE TREE WOULD HAVE PLANTED THERE BY MINERS OR SETTLERS.HOW EASY IS THIS.ONLY DOWN FALL WITH THESE TREE SITES IS THE HAZARDS.RATS,LOTS OF LITTLE BITY THINGYS,SNAKES,AND ALL THE OTHER SHARP EDGED JUNK.OLD SETTLEMENT DUMPS ARE GREAT FUN TO DIG ;D

hi dave only one wheel. the wheel is off an overhead drive shaft of a german built quartz stamping battery.theres huge pieces of steel all over the place.
