1873 was the last year for the seated liberty dollar. Do you perhaps mean a trade dollar?

Sounds like a nice find, however , the trade dollar is one of the most counterfieted coins coins out there.??....Joe

Trade dollar would be my guess too just from the description and what I have learned here on tnet. Monty

If it is a 1877 Seated Liberty Dollar, it 99.9 fake from China. Do an Ebay Search and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Does it look like this?

That would be a trade dollar.
I see another one there in your coin album.Did you get these at the same time?
As the previous post stated, these coins are highly counterfieted. And if it has the cc on the back i would be very suspicious.
By the way,i have a whole box full of the fake ones i got off of ebay. The were advertised as real, but i got the whole bunch for 90.00 dollars and had a couple checked by a grading service. Both fake!!!!
If you have a snall scale and can weigh it it should weigh 27.22 grams or very close to it.All my fakes were quite a ways off.Like 5 grams low.

on real US Dollar coins if Lady Liberty is Pointed Up the Eagle will be upside down on the reverse side... But if both Lady Liberty and the Eagle are pointed up its a 40% Silver copy Lighter and a bit smaller than the real thing.

Made in China and Hong Kong.. I have a 1878 Copy myself worth about 15 bucks...

Real 1877 Trade Dollars

go for
110 in vg
140 in fine
160 in ef
270 in Au 50
550 in ms-60
1,600 ms-63

Yep. When Dad died I ended up with his coin collection. They're the real deal. For better or worse both San Francisco Mint. I can remember pulling Mercs and Buffalo Nickels out of circulation. He could remember pulling IH Cents and Barbers out of circulation (born 1912). The Peace Dollars behind it are a full set with some duplicates. Wish I could say the same of the Morgans. :D

Did he pull those trade dollars from circulation or did you buy them as a collectors item? Those are some pretty coins. Wish I could find me one or three of those.

Trade Dollar !

Can't tell if it's a fake without looking at it with a glass and checking with a scale.
