Detector(s) used
Garrett AT Pro
Hi all. It's been a while since I've had something that I have been so excited that I needed to post it... But I think I have just that today. I went out to my favorite spot of late where I found three silvers and a number of wheats over the past month. I decided to try a tree line that I hadn't done thoroughly yet- so off I went taking my time going slowly and listening carefully to everything that my detector was telling me. Anything repeating I dug. After a few clad quarters I got a great 84 on my AT Pro at six inches- this turned out to be a beauty of a 1927 Merc. I would have been very happy with just that- but just five minutes later and about 10 feet away I got what I believed was a zinc Penny signal - but it too was at six inches- couldn't be an Indian, right?! Sure enough, out pops a crusted over brown IHC. I assumed that it would be an early 1900s coin as the house was built near the turn of the century- and because I couldn't read the date I just put it in my pouch and kept going. When I got home I started cleaning with soap, water and an old toothbrush. The first numbers I could make out were "18." Cool! Older than I thought. Next a 7... Could it be? I just had another look under the loupe- and almost dropped it. Have a look. I'm taking my time cleaning it and will post updates later. Thanks for looking!

Is that another "7?"

I'm pretty sure it's not a 7, unless there's some variety with a weird 7. Either way, nice find. Never found an IHP, ever, nada, zip.

Congrats!

-Happy Hunting!

Yes, starting to look more like a 3 or 8. Oh well.

Boy, thats a hard verify from the pics, but I am siding with scrappy on this one. Looks a lil off to be another 7...but, for your sake I hope it is!!! Its always fun finding IH's any which way! Congrats on your find and I hope I'm wrong! LOL. HH

I'm more inclined to believe it's a 74

Either way not a 7

cool on the indian though

Good find either way buddy! You set your bar way too high in the past buddy lol. Glad you got out and scored a couple keepers bro

Nice find, either way!

Looks like a '73.... maybe a '72 which is also a key date... although obviously not as key as the 1877. Nice find!

Thanks all. As it turns out it's an 1873. I'll take it! Looks like it will clean up really nicely- has a nice green patina too. Now that 1877 is solidly on my short list!!!

Thanks, Abe! I'm working on a new site for the Fall where I'm hoping some colonial coins might be napping in the dirt. Time to go wake them up!

Sweet finds ! Congrats
