1875 stoneware bottle

As you can see in the pic the color ran down before it was fired - blocking out a letter . I think it says WHEATON . All I get in Google are glass bottles . Any info?

Presumably this would be related to the firm of Hiram Wheaton & Sons of New Bedford, MA.
