My first seated coin! I've hunted this park a million times but I've been having a lot of luck lately... mostly with pennies and nickels and a few old foreign coins. Not much silver ever... and then all of a sudden a half dime! My previous oldest coin found in oregon was 1881 IHP oldest silver was a barber dime 1893 or 1894 maybe (found in same park) ... so this was a big jump.

I also found a dateless buffalo nickel.

Great observation Rhedden. To add to your theory, I see unbalanced wear on the coin's rim. The left side of the rim looks to be much more worn than the right side. This might also lend support to your theory that it once was a coat button, and that it served that purpose for quite some time before the shank fell off.

it COULD just be a result of being in the ground but i think you might be right. And it is even more clear from the back.

Woah, that is a killer find. Not easy to break into the 1800s at all on the West Coast, especially not Seateds. Congratulations on a wonderful coin!

That is awesome!!! I would have loved to have seen your face. :laughing

I too am in search of that Barber Quarter. I am blessed to already have found the Dime and Half.

Nice Seated!!! Half Dime at that. Congratulations my friend.
I’ve only found a Seated 1875 dime but it was counterfeit. But it was counterfeited in 1875 at least.
