1865 Indian head and a wagon from the 1800's

Just got back from a run up into Canada yesterday. While waiting to get loaded at Higgin's rigging Co. of Niagara Falls New York, I found these. The manager said that they actually used to use those back at the turn of the century. Anyway returned to the 1836 house I have been hunting now when I can. I have covered most of the front and have focused my attention to the back. I found this 1865 Indian head tonight at 5 inches. Also found a perfectly good square nail (amazing condition). Same area I found the civil war button last week. A newer wheat penny and some kind of metal?? Headed back Sat. and swing some more. I know that there is a lot more stuff in the ground but I am not good enough yet to know when to dig. Lot's of "iffy signals" I'm sure someone else could go in there and find some good stuff. I just hope the house doesn't sell any time soon.

Thanks again guys. It took me a long time to dig that wagon out. I had to hire a backhoe ;D. Is that Indian a Fatty?? Don't know what a fatty is, yet. I'm hoping for a key date Indian from this place :-X. I still have a lot of ground there. When the beans are out I'm going in the field that surrounds this place (90 acres). There was a house next to this one which was next to the train station. That's where I found the large cent last week. It was next to the old sidewalk which is hardly visible now. I've searched along side of it a little. Grass is too tall and poison ivy galore.
Your 65 is not a "fatty" It is a bronze coin composed of .950 copper and .050 tin and zinc weighing 3.11 grams. The 1859 through 64 Indians are considered fatties, composed of .880 copper and .120 nickel and weigh in at a hefty 4.67 grams. keep up the good work and a fatty will come up in no time!

Cool now I know too (1859-1864)

But I always thought that the 1859 was bronze too. I have owned a few non dug ones over the years and they were always yellowish not brown like copper. I learn something new everyday...

The color of this one compared to the other 3 was definetly different (as you can see from the pic) It looks like it's has a lot of copper in it.

My feeling on digging iffy signals is if you are questioning it dig it. You will never know for sure until its dug. Especially a site where you have an idea of the history. If you have researched an area and are there because its has history. Dig everything. If its a newer site- new park, kids playground etc. then maybe use some discrimination. But even then you could miss out on the gold.

Why didn't I think of that ;D You are right. I guess I just got tired of digging square nails and little pieces of metal. I'm learning, though. I do have the patience, just not the experience of the machine and metal detecting.
