1853 Half Dime, V-Nickel, 2 IH's, Token, Silver Dimes, Quarter, What a DAY!!

Well Gary and I got out today, and what a Day it was. It kinda started off slow. We stopped at an old Church site, and wasn't really finding anything. Then Bang!, Gary found a couple of IH's 1895 & 1899 and a 1902 V Nickel and I came up with a really nice Horseshoe. I then found a really nice 1853 Half Dime.

We left this site and headed for what I call my Silver Dollar site, cause I found a 1899 Silver Dollar there back in Jan. of this year. I found a 1914 wheat penny, no mint mark darn it, a 1943 Washington Quarter, a really nice blue clay marble, a Shrader-Uneversal Tire Air Pressure Gauge, a P & A button, and a porcelain doll leg with shoe.

Gary found at this site an old metal shoe last, not sure if that's what it's called, a what looks like a kids brass knuckle, two Mercury dimes 1925 & 1927, a really cool bottle which says Otto's Cure for Throat and Lungs and a neat token which says 20th Conv. K & P Indianapolis on the back and two faces on the front, with damon-pytmia3. Beats me what that is.

What started off as a not so good a day, ended up a GREAT DAY.

Hope you all had a good day of hunting also. Ringfinder

What you have there is a token from the Knights of Pythias, formed in 1864. The fraternal organization formed a secret "Endowment Rank" to escape insurance laws in 1887. After the stock market crash, the insurance group became known as "United Mutual Life" in 1930. It had almost a million members at one time, and F.D.R. became a member in 1936. Really COOL token!

Thanks Buckleboy, I looked it up on Google and couldn't find anything. I knew someone on here would be able to help us out on this neat find. Thanks Again, Ringfinder

You're welcome! I was just happy to finally beat PBK to the punch!! ;D

I didn't see the small print until you told me about it, Thanks. I knew it was old, but didn't know it was that old.

Way to go, Denny. How deep was the half dime? You guys have some great sites there! Keep it up, dude!

Your not going to believe how deep that 1/2 dime was. You know how kids drive through fields, just for the heck of it, well, someone did just that. They drove through this field we were hunting tearing up ground and drove out the other side. In one of those hills of dirt they tore up was the 1/2 dime. It was just laying on top of the ground. Thanks to over ever tore up that field.

When I saw what some goofy kid did, I told Gary, Wow I can't wait to see what we will find when the farmer tears up the field.

HH all and Thanks for looking at my post. Gary and I had fun finding these items and glad you had fun looking at them.

HH, Ringfinder

"Wow" half a dine could that be worth 5 cents. ;) Congratulation. :)

Re: 1853 Half Dime, V-Nickel, 2 IH's, Token, Silver Dimes, Quarter, What a DAY!!

Ringfinder, love your great collection of finds! Of course the half dime is the sweetest but everything else, esp. the clay marble is very nice. Maybe someone can verify this, but I'm thinking the small steel shoe is a form a cobbler would use to make or repair shoes on.

Keep digging!

Re: 1853 Half Dime, V-Nickel, 2 IH's, Token, Silver Dimes, Quarter, What a DAY!!

Marble is called a bennington, worth $5-$10. The spots are caused by the marble being fired together in the kiln...points where they touch each other. Funny, I've an identical sitting here on my desk from 1880 dig site.

Yes Michiganne, I think that is what the metal shoe was used for, as a repair shoe. I have one, in better shape on a metal post and it's mounted on a wood block. Thanks again for looking at my post.

Wow, that is Interesting Diamondjim. Thanks for the information. I must have over 2 dozen of those kind of marbles that I have found over my 23 years of detecting. I guess it pays to watch the ground while detecting.

I love the way you posted your finds. I don't think I would have enough room on the page to list all my finds from last year. I know I found over 4 thousand clad coins. I already cleaned and turned in over $175 dollars worth. Have a bunch more to turn in, I just haven't taken them to the bank yet. The teller about had a fit when I took all the other up. Oh Well, can't wait to see her face next week when I take the rest in. I need a something for detecting I'm sure. Ha! Ha!

Thanks everyone who replied to my post and who liked the pictures. We had a ball finding those items, and can't wait to hit another new site.

HH all, hope you find your pot of gold or silver! Ringfinder
