I know there are some guys out there who think its impossible to make the coin/relic finds I've made this year (as I've heard about through recent private messages) and honestly, I'm fine with that. I'm not going to quit sharing my finds. I enjoy seeing everyone else's great finds and like to share mine when I find them. If you want to sling mud about me behind my back, have at it. Those who know me personally know what type of guy I am and everyone else is entitled to their own opinions.

That being said, yesterday I went to a spot where I had found some nice things earlier in the year and picked up some bullets and an 1853 halfdime (not pictured)

Today, I returned back to the same spot and right off the bat found the 1861 halfdime. After about an hour or so, I had only found the five bullets and some camp lead so I went back to the spot where I found the 2 halfdimes. I got a VERY FAINT signal hitting 88-92 on my machine which is generally a deep square nail, so I dig... and you can see from the pictures how deep this gold coin was. My best guess is 7-9 inches. I added the embossed glass shard with the "D" since it was in the same hole :laughing7: ** Out of the hole, the coin is a consistent 56 signal, and nickels ring up as 60 on the gold bug, so just below a nickel.

-The first four pictures are from my cell phone

Thanks for looking, this is my 1st gold coin

Jeff

Awesome gold coin....keep diggin and postin

Jeff, Congratulations on your first gold coin :occasion14: and, as you know I predicted you would find one soon :laughing7: but that was an easy prediction given the way you were finding all that seated silver. It seems like those western troops may not have been equipped as well as the boys back east, but they sure were paid better!!

Don't worry about the gossip. The real diggers on this forum respect your finds.

HH Steve

You get nothing but praise from the Best Diggers around,
Wonder why the banner hasn't shown changes lately...

I've seen a couple finds with enough votes and importance to be showcased :hello:

Thanks again guys, here are my finds there from today.. The last picture are my finds at this little hotspot since Thursday.

For those interested in the history behind the finds, I am hunting a very large 1861 Union Camp in Missouri.

well done Jeff Glad you goy one bud! Youve a great year

sweet gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on a superb coin Jeff and one on my wish list also. When you put the amount of energy and time into relic hunting like you do, you will have your share of home runs as well as the strike outs. So, to hell with the nay sayers and keep posting your great "home run" finds!:headbang:

Beautiful coin Jeff. This has been a banner coin year for you. Congrats!

Dang Jeff - you've been on a huge roll for quite some time. Many congrats on your first gold coin. Now you can scratch that one off your most wanted list. But, of course, you need to find one of each denomination so you can have a complete set ..... LOL! And I bet #2 isn't far behind the way you're tearing it up this year. By the way, your $1 gold piece is identical to the one I found last March. HH ..... Bill
